RULES & REGULATIONS

General
  • The Tour de Batam (‘The Event’) is organised by MetaSport (Tribob.com Pte Ltd), “the Organisers”, under the UCI (International Cycling Union) rules and regulations.
  • In the event of inclement weather, the Organisers reserve the right to delay the commencement of the race, shorten the race, modify the course or cancel the race without any refund of registration fees.
  • At any point in time, the Organisers reserve the right to cancel the race without any refund of registration fees.
  • Prior to race day, in the event of inclement weather, force majeure or other hazardous conditions, the Organisers reserve the right to reschedule or cancel the race without any refund of registration fees.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to limit and refuse entries.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to remove any participant deemed physically incapable of continuing the race.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to amend the Rules and Regulations without prior notification.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to amend the race course with prior notice to participants.
Race Entry

Age Limits

  • Age categories are determined by age as of 31 December 2023.
  • Participants must be at least 16 years old to take part in the Gran Fondo Challenge  and Gran Fondo Discovery  events.
  • Participants must at least be 19* years old to qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in the Individual Time Trial & Gran Fondo Classic.
  • Participants must at least be 18* years old to take part in the Individual Time Trial & Gran Fondo Classic and Grand Fondo Century events (*18 year old individuals may race but will not be ranked in the UCI events (Gran Fondo Classic and Individual Time Trial)
  • Participants under 18 years of age must be registered on the registration form by a parent who provides consent to take part in the event.
  • On-the-spot entries will not be accepted.

Changes

  • The Organisers will not be responsible for any disputes arising from incomplete and/or incorrect entry details given by the participants.
  • Changes to race distance are permitted. An admin fee of S$20 will apply per change. All changes must be made in writing to customerservice@metasport.com by registration closing date.
  • Race entries are non-transferable. Any person doing so will be held responsible in case of an accident arising from or provoked by the other person during the race. The Organisers reserve the right to exclude both parties from future events.
  • Once the registration form has been processed, there will be no refund of entry fees for participants who, for whatever reason, eventually do not take part.
Equipment
  • It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that their bicycles are in good working condition and safe for use in a mass participation cycling event.
  • The organiser reserves the right to refuse participants with bicycles that are considered unsafe for the event.
  • Only conventional road bikes are allowed in the Individual Time Trial, Gran Fondo Classic, Gran Fondo Century as per UCI technical regulations
  • Conventional road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, and foldable bikes are allowed in the 82km Gran Fondo Challenge and 52km Gran Fondo Discovery rides.
  • Triathlon handlebars, aerobars, bar extensions and bull horns are not permitted at any time.
  • Handlebar ends have to be solidly plugged.
  • Wheels must have a minimum of 12 spokes. Disc wheels are not allowed.
  • Non-standard wheels (with rims higher than 2.5cm, fewer than 16 spokes or a spoke thickness of over 2.4mm) must have passed a rupture test. UCI’s approved wheels list.
  • Disc brakes are allowed
  • Bottle cage holders behind the seat are not allowed in the Individual Time Trial, Gran Fondo Classic and Gran Fondo Century.
  • Hydration backpacks are allowed in the Gran Fondo Challenge and Gran Fondo Discovery.
  • Participants must wear a securely fastened cycling helmet for the entire duration of each ride.
  • Aero-helmets are not allowed.
  • Jerseys worn in the event must cover the shoulders for the Individual Time Trial, Gran Fondo Classic and Gran Fondo Century. Sleeveless cycling jerseys are not allowed in these events.
Participant Obligations
  • Participants must read the athlete’s guide and or briefing video prior to their participation in the event.
  • Participants must keep to the left side of the road and observe traffic rules at all times.
  • Participants must ensure that their competition numbers are clearly visible at the back of their adorned apparel at all times.
  • Wearing headphones is not allowed at any time.
  • Private (support) vehicles are prohibited from the event.

ITT Rules
  • All riders must present themselves at the race start areas no later than 15 minutes before their start time for a Commissaire to check that their bike adheres to weight(>6.8 kg) and equipment regulations.
  • The rider starts his ride under the orders of the timekeeper-commissaire who shall count down to the starting time, following which the timing of the ride shall start. Riders who miss their start will receive a time penalty.
  • A rider, upon catching up with another shall leave a lateral gap of at least 2 metres between himself and the other rider. After 1km, the rider caught up shall ride at least 25 m away from the other.

Results

Results

  • If cyclists finish as a bunch they all receive the same group time. If a rider finishes within one second of the rider in front, they are considered in the same group.
  • If a rider crashes within 3K of the finish, he gets the same time as the group he was riding with.

Protests

  •  A cyclists must approach the Information desk either at the race venue, or via the Race Office to lodge an official protest.
  • The protest must be lodged within four (4) hours of the official results being published for a stage.
  • All protest enquiries must be completed prior to the start of the next stage.
