The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Gran Fondo World Series is a series of UCI-sanctioned races held all over the world. Tour de Batam is one of the only 2 races in Asia and 28 worldwide where participants can obtain their ticket for the official UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in different age groups. The top 20% in each age group at Tour de Batam’s 15km Individual Time Trial and Gran Fondo Classic race qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, where the champions are awarded with the coveted rainbow jersey.
The 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship will crown the new UCI World Champions in road racing and the time-trial in Aalborg, Denmark in September 2024.

How to qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championship:
The top 3 winners of an official age category always qualify (up to 65+). Additional age groups (70+, 75+) are only split from the 65+ category if more than 6 riders over 70, 75 etc register to create an additional age group that will then have separate results and qualification spots.

The UCI World Cycling Tour Finale returns to Aalborg
In collaboration with Denmark’s Cycling Union and Aalborg Cykel-Ring, Aalborg has once again been awarded the hosting of the UCI World Cycling Tour Finale 2024 by the International Cycling Union (UCI).
The UCI Gran Fondo World Championships is the premier championship for amateur cyclists. The event is a four-day event, which runs from 28 August – 1 September 2024. It is expected that approx. 3000 cyclists participate in the championship in Aalborg.
The World Championship is an event at the highest level with participation from both the elite and the general public. The participants qualify via one of the UCI’s qualification races, which are held all over the world.

The execution of the event is expected to look like the following:
Wednesday 28 August
Opening event and registration at Gl. Square
Thursday 29 August
Single start with start and finish at Nytorv (Individual Time Trial)
Friday, August 30
Team relay (Team Relay) with start and finish at Nytorv
Saturday 31 August
Rest day, where a number of activities are organized on Gammel Torv in Aalborg for the many participants and the city’s citizens.
Sunday, September 1
Line run (Road Race) with start and finish at Nytorv

The Top 25% of finishers in each age group in the following events will earn a spot:
Qualifiers will receive an official qualifier medal. Age group winners will receive a UCI Gran Fondo World Series jersey.
